Abstract

The NHS could save £71m and improve patient safety by comprehensively adopting electronic systems for rostering and monitoring staffing levels, a report has suggested.1 The report by the Policy Analysis Centre and the London School of Economics says that many health service trusts have so far adopted only partial electronic rostering systems.1 Such systems have been limited to certain staff groups and have not incorporated additional systems to monitor time keeping and attendance. The report’s authors said that development of a “paperless NHS” had largely focused on the collection of clinical data.
