Abstract

This study on using Alternanthera sessilis extract to inhibit the formation and to dissolue of canxi oxalate (CaOx) was conducted in vitro. The plant samples were extracted with ethanol 70% v/v. The content of phenolic and flavonoid of Alternanthera sessilis extract was determined by UV- Vis spectrophotometer at 510 nm and 765 nm. The inhibitory percentage of nucleation, growth and aggregation of CaOx was determined by UV- Vis spectrophotometer at 620 nm and 214 nm. Efficiencies in the dissolution of the canxi oxalat crystals of A. sessilis extract was determined by titration method. The results showed that moisture and the yield of Alternanthera sessilis extract were 15.98% and 7.22%, respectively. The extract of Alternanthera sessilis had the presence of bioactive compounds such as alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin, terpenoid, tannin and phenol. The phenolic and flavonoid content of Alternanthera sessilis extract were 167.79-320.65 mg gallic acid/g and 128.01-247.64 mg quercetin/g, respectively. The extract Alternanthera sessilis had the ability to inhibit nucleation, growth and aggregation of CaOx crystals and IC50 value of extract was 3.17 mg/mL; 2.48 mg/mL and 1.57 mg/mL, respectively. At 50 mg/mL of extract, Alternanthera sessilis extract have the ability to dissolue of the CaOx crystals reach 58.97%.
