Abstract

It has been an emergency that wild medicinal plants resource has overexploited in An Giang province, and that led to the decrease of the source in recent years. This study sought to examine wild medicial plants diversity and distribution at Cam Mountain, An Giang in order to find an alternative medical plant source and record data for management and bioconservation. The study was conducted from August 2016 to May 2017 using the field survey methods to examine five featured areas with five pathways in Nui Cam. There were 120 species collected which belong to 54 families of Polypodiophyta and Magnoliophyta. Specifically, Magnoliophyta accounted for the highest number of species with 117 species belonged to 51 families, and the rest were found in the first phylum. The surveyed species could be classified into four groups regarding their growth habits in which the highest group was herbaceous plant (44 species), followed by the climbing and shrubs plants with 29 and 26 species, respectively. Woody plant was recorded as the lowest group with 21 species. Medicinal plants in this survey have been recorded as effective treatments for rheumatoid arthritis, body aches, cough, fever, and diarrhea. Roots were used popularly in herbal combinations among 11 plant parts categories. In terms of endangered species, there were six species recorded in Vietnam Red Data Book (2007). The digital mapping was also conducted to site wild medicinal plants in this study area. Most plants were densely located along the trails (74 species) and inside the forest (69 species). The richest density of plant distribution was recorded between 400 m and 500 m mountain height.
