Abstract

Members of the nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB)/Rel family have been identified as essential transcription factors in the pathogenesis of airway inflammation in asthma. This chapter reviews the clinical manifestations and pathogenesis of asthma and provides an overview of the NF-κB/Rel family of transcription factors. Regulation of the NF-κB signaling pathway by 1κB proteins, 1κB kinases, and the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway, as well as the important role of the NF-κB signaling pathway in the pathogenesis of asthmatic airway inflammation are considered.
