Abstract
Women empowerment is the creation of an atmosphere where women may make their own decisions for their own and society’s benefit, strengthening and improving women’s social, economic, political and legal authority to assure equal rights and give them the confidence to assert themselves. India’s focus on women’s empowerment to reduce domestic abuse has grown over the last few decades. In light of the background, the main goal of this study is to determine whether a region-specific disparity exists, whether urban and rural disparity exists, and whether women empowerment promotes gender violence. The study found a regional disparity in gender violence and women’s empowerment. Both urban and rural areas show discrepancies. The study also found that per-capita net state domestic product and women literacy rates are inversely related to gender-based violence. Women empowerment is positively related with gender-based violence. JEL Codes: J12, J16, J21, J24, K42
