Abstract

By exactly diagonalizing a small system with 16 cells, we examine the influence of the hopping to next nearest neighbours (nnn) in an effective single-band ( t-J) model as relevant for CuO 2 layers in oxide superconductors. By calculating the ground states for one and two holes we show that in a doped system even a small nnn hopping strongly influences the stability of the antiferromagnetic correlations and the Nagaoka state at small J/t as well as the binding energy of two holes.
