Abstract

Annual Conference: The 57th Annual conference of the Society for French Studies took place at the University of Glasgow, 27–29 June 2016. The Society was very pleased to welcome over 170 delegates to Glasgow, where Word & Image, The Senses, and Memory Cultures were popular multi-panel strands over the three days, alongside a wide range of subjects from the medieval to the contemporary. Delegates enjoyed a civic reception hosted by the Lord Provost, and a conference dinner followed by a vigorous ceilidh. Our distinguished plenary speakers were Susan Harrow (University of Bristol), Tiphaine Samoyault (Université Paris III), Shoshana Felman (Emory University) and Wes Williams (University of Oxford). The Society was delighted to welcome many postgraduate delegates, and for the third year running the conference featured postgraduate flash presentations, this time over two sessions, run by our postgraduate representative Kaya Davies Hayon. The Society offers its warmest thanks to Nina Parish for the seamless execution of a tremendous event.
