Abstract

The direct connection of the standard formulation of electrodynamics ([1]) with that at null infinity ([2], [3], [4]) is given. The representation of Maxwell field → F  1 2 ( → D +i → B ) as a Fourier integral is used, and its asymptotic behaviour at null infinity is investigated In this way the fundamental object of the null canonical formalism—news function (a leading asymptotic term) is obtained as a direct superposition of Fourier coefficients. By using the Fourier transform technique and standard canonical formulation of Maxwell field theory full canonical formalism at null infinity is reconstructed.
