Abstract

The United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (“UNCITRAL”) is the core legal body of the United Nations system in the field of international trade law. Since 1966 UNCITRAL has been carrying out its mandate to further the progressive harmonization and unification of international trade law.1 This article provides an overview of the most recent Commission session, the fifty-second, held in Vienna from 9 - 19 July 2019, and of the activities of the Commission’s working groups and Secretariat from mid-2018 to mid-2019. It is difficult, if not impossible, to summarize the work of UNCITRAL in a condensed fashion and valuable detail and depth is lost in the attempt to provide the breadth of the activities occurring during this time period. Readers are encouraged to visit the UNCITRAL website to find the documents cited in this article and to find more in-depth documentation about the current and historical work of UNCITRAL.2
