Abstract

The new technology would let Wi-Fi work with mesh networking, in which communications occur directly between devices or other nodes without having to travel through a central server or hub. IEEE 802.11s would let devices discover one another over the air and then build efficient transmission paths as needed, around interference and congested or failed nodes if necessary. IEEE 802.11s's maximum data rate and transmission range depends on the particular Wi-Fi technology over which it is running, as well as the host device's capabilities and other factors.
