Abstract

Julie Ellison is professor of English at the University of Michigan and director of Imagining America: Artists and Scholars in Public Life, A National Initiative. She is author of Emerson's Romantic Style (1984),Delicate Subjects: Romanticism, Gender, and the Ethics of Understanding (1990), and, most recently, Cato's Tears and the Making of Anglo-American Emotion (1999).
