Abstract

The emission spectrum of 209Bi has been observed in the infrared region using a Fourier-transform spectrometer at Laboratoire Aimé Cotton, Orsay, using a microwave-excited discharge tube as the light source. In this paper, we report the identification of the 5f–5g, 5f–6g, 5f–7g, and 5f–5g transitions. We have also located the 6d–5f, 6d–6f, 6d–7f, 6d–8f, 6d–9f, 7d–6f, 7d–7f, 7d–8f, and 7d–9f transitions. Using the f–g transitions, we have recalculated the ionization limit of bismuth to be 58 760 ± 1 cm−1.
