Abstract

Recent advances in biopharmaceutical technology have produced sophisticated delivery systems that permit precise control of drug input into the body by unorthodox routes of administration. In addition, greater knowledge of the physiology of the skin and mucous membranes have led to the development of new drug formulations that permit systemic drug delivery by these routes. This review will examine some of these new systems and drug formulations as they relate to anaesthesia and anaesthetic adjuvants.
