Abstract

Abstract The Tettigoniidae of New Zealand are taxonomically clarified and the phenomenon of meiopterism is discussed. The Phaneropterinae are represented by Caedicia simplex (Walker), a lowland species in wanner parts of North and South Islands, and the Conocephalinae by Conocephalus semivittatus (Walker) from Kermadec Islands, Three Kings Islands and the North Island, and C. bilineatus (Erichson), from North and South Islands. Meiopterism is exhibited by Conocephalus and some other Orthoptera, but not by Caedicia.
