Abstract

Abstract About 20 species have been described in or transferred to Rhinocladium. Eight of these were described from collections on rabbit dung, on wood or bark, or from soil isolations: the remainder are “medical fungi”. The identity of the group of eight is discussed. Four species are illustrated and described, the type species R. coprogenum Sacc. et March., R. lignicola (Sacc.) Hughes, and two new species, R. pulchrum Hughes et HolubovaJechova from New Zealand, Czechoslovakia, and Hungary, and R. dingleyae Hughes from New Zealand. Excluded species are R. torulosum (Bon.) Sacc., R. macrosporum Karst., and R. olivaceum Bres. The taxonomic positions of R. corticola Massee, R. nigrosporoides Kamyschko, and R. sporotrichoides Kamyschko are not known to me but the two last named are probably misplaced in Rhinocladium.
