Abstract

Beginning July 1, most foods prepared in New York City restaurants will no longer be permitted to contain more than half a gram of artificial trans fats per serving. Dr. Susan Okie reports. Dr. Thomas Frieden, New York City commissioner of health, discusses the logic behind a ban on trans fats in the city's restaurants, the logistics of enforcing it, and efforts to inform consumers about the caloric content of prepared foods.
