Studies reported in this paper show that it has a duration of approximately one hour longer than procaine HC1 or lidocaine HC1. It is an excellent anesthetic agent, causes no local irritation, and seems nontoxic. It is being extensively used for dental surgery, where it is considered to be the anesthetic agent of choice by many. The ideal anesthetic solution for ophthalmologic surgery should, however, have a considerably longer action to prevent postoperative pain.
