Abstract

UV/heat dual-curable sealant with improved adhesive strength was prepared using new acrylate-epoxy hybrid resin. Hybrid resins containing two different reactive groups provide a high curing rate through UV curing of acrylate groups and heat curing of epoxy groups, resulting in improved adhesive strength and water permeability of the liquid crystal display (LCD). The adhesive strength, water permeability, and liquid crystal contamination level of the proposed dual-curable sealant were examined and compared with those of conventional sealant containing bisphenol A epoxy resin. The proposed sealant may be utilized as an LCD sealant for narrow-bezel applications.
