Abstract

Remains of turtles were found in the Lower Cretaceous (Barremian) of the Tugulu Group (Hutubin Formation) in the Tukhun-Kho locality, Jungarr Basin, Xinjiang Province, the People’s Republic of China early in 1940. Soon they were lost, but the photograph and a series of drawings were preserved. Now turtles are described, they belong to a new species ? Sinemys efremovi sp. nov. (Sinemydidae), which differs from the other known representatives of the genus by a strong posterior curvature of the distal parts of the 7th and 8th costal plates, larger suprapygal first plate, and by the relatively wider postero-medial parts of the hypoplastra.
