Abstract

The need for new materials for manufacturing application has become a necessity in the material world. Thus, in an attempt to provide innovative materials that have an astonishing blend of chemical, mechanical and physical properties, this study critically looks into the recent advances in thin film deposition. The terminologies used in film deposition were defined, the thin film deposition techniques were highlighted and some applications which showed the new trends in thin film deposition were reviewed and discussed. The overview shows that advances in thin film deposition are evolving and enormous, thus, few of the applications were discussed in course of this study. Examples of advances in thin film deposition application discussed in this review include the application of thin film deposition in storage, electronic semiconductor devices, detectors and sensors, energy and optoelectronics application, resistance to wear, corrosion, abrasion and thermal stability.
