Abstract

A new family of unique titanium silicate molecular sieves was recently discovered at Engelhard. These materials have a unique molecular architecture due to octahedrally coordinated titanium framework atoms. The structure of ETS-10 (titanium silicate) has open three-dimensional structure consisting of chains of titanium octahedra linked through classical tetrahedral silica rings. Xylene isomerization was tested over La/ETAS-10 at 427°C using a solution containing 20% ethylbenzene and 80% m-xylene. ETAS-10 catalyst was compared with H-mordenite and H-ZSM-Ethyl benzene cracking occurs over zeolites with strong Bronsted acidity. Deactivation of catalyst by coking may be prevented by choosing pore shape selective materials such as ZSM-5. The ethyl benzene is present as 20% of the xylene solution. Ethyl benzene cracking to ethylene and benzene enhances coke formation due to ethylene oligomerization on strong acidic sites to give aromatics.
