Abstract

The paper examines the adoption of technology interventions such as Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping and web enablement, integrated land management information systems, Ultra Resolution Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) based mapping for preparation and maintenance of maps for Land record management. It also covers a blockchain based architecture for Land record and registry management. Such architecture can enhance transparency, trust and traceability and increase efficiency of processes and is examined in more detail. The vulnerability of a centralized land management system is also discussed. The paper discusses different initiatives taken under the modernization of land records programme in three different states of India. It also examines the architectural and governance requirements, issues and challenges in introducing the new technology concepts to Land Record and Registry management domain.
