Abstract

Synthesis of 1,4-dihydropyridines in the presence of aminated multiwalled carbon nanotubes and investigation into their antimicrobial properties were carried out.Amino functionalized carbon nanotubes were prepared through a facile, clean and safe procedure. Obtained modified carbon nanotubes were used as a new efficient solid base catalyst for the synthesis of 1,4-dihydropyridines. The multicomponent reaction products were obtained in good to excellent yields. Furthermore, antimicrobial activity of synthesized compounds was evaluated against 12 microorganisms including 3 gram positive bacteria, 5 gram negative bacteria and fungi strains. The results showed that 3,5-diethoxy carbonyl-4-(4-methyl)phenyl-2,6-dimethyl-1,4-dihydropyridine was effective against both gram positive bacteria and fungi.
