Abstract

A facile sonochemical and the microwave co-assisted method (SMC) with low temperature (70°C) has been applied to synthesize a series of rare earth orthovanadates LnVO4 with the tetragonal zircon structures. XRD patterns indicate that the average crystallite sizes gradually increase with the decrease of the ions radii of the rare earth, SEM images show that different lanthanide ions triggered various morphologies. The luminescence properties of EuVO4 and GdVO4: 5%Eu3+ (or LuVO4: 5%Eu3+) have been compared and the results showed that europium(III) activated GdVO4 (or LuVO4) composites were more efficient red-emissive phosphors than pure EuVO4.
