Abstract

The National Academy of Sciences has appointed a committee chaired by D. Allan Bromley of Yale University to initiate a new survey of physics. This study will be conducted in the Division of Physical Sciences under the aegis of the Academy's Committee on Science and Public Policy with the support of several of the major federal agencies. Physics will be explored as a discipline, but more importantly, its interrelationships with technology and other sciences will be examined. The survey will be concerned with the role of physics in the current national and social context.
