Abstract

In 2009, APTA launched a brand campaign (http://www.moveforwardpt.com/) to help consumers, other health care professionals, and referral sources understand what physical therapists do. The motto “physical therapy brings motion to life” was adopted to capture the breadth of physical therapist practice. This issue of PTJ contains a number of exciting articles that provide insight into the scope of our practice. Two themes deserve special attention: variability in human motor development and regenerative medicine . The Pediatrics Special Issue papers on variability in childhood development1–6 challenge us to reconsider assumptions that guide examination and intervention in children with disabilities—and perhaps to “move forward” differently.
