Abstract

Polychlorinated terphenyls (PCT), a group of persistent, low‐volatile environmental pollutants are rarely investigated because of their high number of congeners and missing practicable analytical methods. Therefore, the proven strategy is pursued to define a set of reference substances that is analyzed representatively of all PCT. For this purpose, 29 tetra‐ to hepta‐chlorinated terphenyls are chosen, easily reaching a coplanar conformation because of lacking ortho‐substitutions. Now, the synthesis work has been finished by producing the so‐far‐missing 17 single coplanar PCT. Spectroscopic data of these compounds, generated by nuclear magnetic resonance, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry, as well as short notes on the synthesis procedures, are provided herein.
