Abstract

Material of the genus Ifnidius Escalera, 1940 (Coleoptera: Malachiidae) was collected from the islands Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria between 1996 and 2005. A further study has shown that these specimens belong to two new species, easily differentiable from I. petricola Plata, 1987, the only species of the genus known so far in the Canaries. The type specimens of most species of Ifnidius have been examined. Figures and an identification key to all species of the genus are provided, accompanied by comparative notes and some biological data on the Canarian species.
