Abstract

A new species of scale insect, Asterolecanium russellae , on orchids from the Republic of the Philippines is described and illustrated. A modified key is provided to separate the new species from other asterolecaniids. The characteristic that distinguishes this species from other pit scales is the arrangement of large 8-shaped pores on the dorsum in seven or eight medial clusters.
