Abstract
This paper presents three space-frequency (SF)-based orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems to combat inter-carrier interference (ICI) in mobile fading channels. First, a new SF architecture is developed to form a new SF-OFDM system. Second, a conjugate cancellation (CC) two-path transmission scheme is integrated with the new SF-OFDM system to form the SFCC-OFDM system. Third, the Walsh–Hadamard (WH) transform is employed as a pre-coder to form a new WHSFCC-OFDM system. Both SFCC-OFDM and WHSFCC- OFDM schemes improve bit error rate without expanding power or bandwidth in comparing with the CC scheme. Simulations indicate that WHSFCC-OFDM systems outperform both SFCC- OFDM and SF-OFDM systems, while SFCC-OFDM systems outperform SF-OFDM systems. All three schemes are simple and may serve as baseband building blocks in OFDM systems.
