Abstract

In this paper the effect of multiple frequency offsets (FO) on the performance of Successive Interference Cancellation (SIC) receivers under Rayleigh fading channel scenario is investigated. We derive a closed form expression for the probability of error for SIC scheme in the presence of multiple FOs, and verify this through extensive simulation results. Through our analytical results, we demonstrate that frequency offsets can severely degrade the performance of multi-user detectors. We propose frequency offset estimation and correction techniques for improved SIC, and demonstrate through analytical and simulation results that our new approach yields approximately 8 dB gain in the bit-error-rate (BER) performance as compared to the conventional SIC scheme in the presence of multiple frequency offsets.
