Abstract

Nowadays Russian construction revises its norms and standards and unifies them with international and regional norms. The urge to update documents regulating corrosion protection has emerged long ago. Extensive research has been conducted on corrosion in gaseous, liquid and solid severe environments, and in biologically active media; on “internal” concrete corrosion, e.g. caused by ASR, and corrosion of advanced HPC. Diagnostic experience of corrosion processes in various building structures, together with the experience of their protection, has been accumulated. In 2010, the Inter-State CIS Standard GOST 31384-2008 “Structural concrete and reinforced concrete protection against corrosion. General technical requirements” was introduced. The work on the Standard allowed substantiating the actualization of Codes of practice SNiP 2.03.11-87 “Protection of building structures against corrosion” and SNiP 3.04.03-85 “Protection of buildings, facilities and structures against corrosion”. The newest version of SNiP 2.03.11 - SP 28.13330.2012 describes measures of primary and secondary protection for the period of no less than 100 years, which is twice as much as it was in the earlier documents. The updated SNiP 3.04.03-85 – SP 72.13330.2016 establishes general requirements to the execution of anticorrosion works in situ and at enterprises. It describes paint coatings; coverings; membrane waterproofing; insulating plaster coatings; thin crack-resisting polymer cement protective coatings; piecework or block revetment; sealing treatment; hydrophobization; treatment with biocidal and antiseptic agents; injections, etc. The revised codes are the basic documents; therefore their requirements to the corrosion protection should be used in other normative documents. In general, the current Russian norms are based on the prescriptive concept, but include a wide range of analytical parameters and design variants. The design of structures with respect to their life-cycle and service life will be one of the most important trends in research and standardization in Russia for the near future. The fib MC 2010 can play here a significant role.
