Summary

Introduction

As Irshad (2011: 1) suggests, “events and festivals tourism is one of the fastest growing forms of tourism. They are becoming increasingly popular in rural areas as a means to revitalize local economies” and traditions. The relevance of the setting and place in cultural expressions has been emphasized in the development and practice of rural festivals (Gibson, et al 2011). This is important in the context of both historical and contemporary processes of change, as well as social and new sociopolitical changes (Robinson and Smith 2006).
