Abstract

In April 2002 the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) was established as the UK regulatory body for nursing and midwifery, and the rules and standards of the previous regulatory body (United Kingdom Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting) were adopted. Since then, new rules for education, registration, midwifery and fitness to practise have been introduced.
