Abstract

Abstract Fe(III)-, Cr(III)-, Al(III)- and La(III)-buserite type manganese oxides were synthesized from a hydrothermally treated, well-crystallized Na+-birnessite through a two-step ion-exchange route, M/Mg2+ ion exchange subsequent to Mg2+/Na+exchange. The ion-exchange reactions progressed smoothly and the layered manganese oxides with multivalent metal ions in the interlayer could be obtained at room temperature.
