New Relative Value Unit for Hearing and Vision Screening and Care Plan Oversight

Abstract

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) have finally assigned relative value units (RVUs) for hearing and vision screening (92551, 99173). RVUs have also been assigned to the codes for care plan oversight of patients residing in a home, domiciliary, or rest home (eg, assisted living facility) (99339, 99340). This is very good news because the majority of payers use the Medicare Resource-Based Relative Value Scale (RBRVS) as their basis for payment and the establishment of RVUs for these services may help you negotiate for coverage and payment.Be sure to check with your payers to determine their coverage of these services.
