Reindeer Herding Association of Finland maintained a research field station at Kaamanen in Finnish Lapland for the last 30 years. This station includes a fenced area of 43 k m 2 in which an experimental herd up to 200 animals is kept
The Finnish Game and Fisheries Institute completed construction of a new facility built at a cost of FIM 10.1 million
Hopialampi reindeer research station encourages international collaboration in reindeer research which will put these new facilities to best use and which will maintain the position of the Institute as a world centre for reindeer research
