Abstract

The authors describe a new technique for posterior prosthetic hip dislocation. This technique is unique because it requires only one assistant and is suitable for smaller physicians who are performing the reduction on much larger patients. This technique uses the first-order lever created by the knee and extensor mechanism, which acts as a fulcrum, to convert the applied force necessary to perform the reduction from a pulling force into a pushing force. This case report presents an obese patient with a posterior prosthetic hip dislocation that was reduced with this new technique after two failed attempts with conventional methods.
