Abstract

The collective or global properties of the eigenvalues of the oblate and prolate spheroidal wave equation are investigated. All the moments of the conventional eigenvalue density are shown to be divergent. However, the moments of an appropriately scaled eigenvalue density take on simple values; in particular, those of even order correspond to a rectangular or uniform density function.
