Abstract

A new system to line furnaces with lightweight ceramic fiber and mineral wool materials, instead of thick insulating firebrick, has been introduced by the Refractories and Electronics Division of The Carborundum Company, Niagara Falls, New York.Called Fiberwall, the system consists basically of either thin ‘hot‐face’ blankets or regidized panels of alumina‐silica ceramic fiber, backed by a layer of temperature‐resistant mineral wool, and secured to the structural steel walls of the furnace by either ceramic or stainless steel hangers.
