Abstract

The introduction of renewable energy systems has alleviated the harmful effects posed by energy pollutants. This system has advanced into the production of perovskite solar cells with increased efficiencies. These perovskite materials have diverse architectures, methods of preparation, characteristic features, and modes of operation. They are classified into organic-inorganic, lead-free, and chalcogenide perovskite materials. Lead-free perovskite materials are more stable and efficient than materials with lead components. All these perovskite materials are geared towards enhancing the performance, stability, and efficiency of perovskite devices. Perovskite materials are usefully applied in solar cells. This chapter introduces the concept of perovskite devices, their diverse architectural designs, and journey so far in the solar cell technology. Different kinds of perovskite solar cells like organic-inorganic perovskite materials, chalcogenide perovskite materials, double perovskite oxides, and lead-free perovskite materials have been discussed. Concluding facts and future perspectives of perovskite devices have also been stated alongside a way forward towards improving the efficiency and stability of perovskite solar cells.
