Abstract

Summary form only given, as follows. Plasma display panels (PDPs) have been considered one of the most attractive candidates for large area and high definition television. We have proposed several new PDP cell structures having high luminous efficiency and good performances in comparison with the conventional AC-PDP structure, using our two- and three-dimensional codes (FL2P and FL3P). We will show fairly different cell structures, Front Address model and its variations An address electrode is located on lower dielectrics in the conventional model. However in the case of our Front Address model, the address electrode is located between sustain electrodes on upper dielectrics. Therefore, its three dimensional structure is quite different. To improve the luminous efficiency, we used long arch-shaped discharge path and inducing low electric-field in PDP cell. From the simulation results based on the models, we obtain about 1.77 and 2.65 times increases in tern-is of the luminous efficiency In addition, we have compared our simulation results in view of electron density with experimentally measured data by Kyushu University using Thomson scattering and also in terms of excited Xe species distributions with measured data by Kyoto University using laser absorption spectroscopy.
