Abstract

1. Paramagnetic palladium(II) and platinum(II) 3,6-di-tert-butylbenzosemiquinolate complexes were prepared containing aσ,π-bonded cycloalkenyl ligand. ESR spectroscopy was used to detect the trans effect of the M-Cσ-bond in the square complexes synthesized, which is evident in the inequivalence of the protons of the 3,6-di-tert-butylbenzosemiquinolate ligand. 2. Pentacoordinated derivatives of palladium (II) and platinum (II) were detected for the first time by ESR spectroscopy in the substitution reactions of “spin-labeled” square planar complexes of these metals. A stable pentacoordinated paramagnetic platinum complex, (C8H12-OMe)Pt(SQ)(PPh3) was isolated as a pure compound.
