Abstract

AbstractPoly(amide acid)s have been synthesized by condensing benzidine‐3,3′‐dicarboxylic acid (BDC) with various aliphatic diesters EtOOCRCOOEt with R = (CH2)n where n = 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and R = cis and trans CH=CH, under suitable experimental conditions. These polymers are insoluble in all common organic solvents but are fairly soluble in concentrated sulfuric acid. The polymers were characterized by IR spectral study, viscometric measurements, and thermal analysis.
