Abstract

Siphoninella antiqua n. sp., from the lower Valanginian of the Crimea, is the first representative of this genus reported from below the middle Eocene, and the first representative of the Family Siphoninidae from below the Upper Cretaceous. It is assigned to Siphoninella on the basis of the presence of an evolute portion of the test in larger specimens and the presence of a peripheral carina and elevated elliptical to circular aperture with surrounding lip. — J.
