Abstract

This paper deals with six Hismaic inscriptions. They were engraved in limestone surfaces. This is of special significance since one inscription (Ġarah 1) shows what could be called semi-cursive in that a line connects two letters. In addition, it reveals new Thamudic personal names: Kmšy (Ġarah 1), Ṭmṯn, Šlf, Sr’n (Ġarah 3), Gṭ’l and ‘ld (Ġarah 6). Further, it is particularly worth noting that two personal names, Šlf (Ġarah 3) and Gṭœ’l (Ġarah 6), which appear here are loans. This group of inscriptions also contains a new verb, ’nz (Ġarah 3).
