In 2011, the Commission proposed that the EU budget for education and training should increase by 73% for the budgetary period 2014–2020 (i.e. to €15.2 billion, up from €8.8 billion for the period 2007–2013). However, the fate of these proposals is still unclear as the EU budget is yet to be finalised.
