Abstract

The Claisen condensation of acetylferrocene with perfluoroalkylcarboxylic acid esters in hexane in the presence of potassium tert-butoxide leads to the formation of potassium salts of ferrocenylperfluoroalkyl diketones. The resulting diketones are used as convenient precursors for the synthesis of various heterocyclic derivatives which have been isolated in high yields. It is shown that the [3+2]-dipolar cycloaddition with substituted azides as well as the reactions of the diketones with bidentate nucleophiles proceed regioselectively.
