Abstract

We have found a new method for preparing tetraphenylbismuth arenesulfonates, based on oxidation of diphenylbismuth arenesulfonate with bromine in ether at 25oC. In the course of the reaction, discoloration of the reaction mixture and formation of crystals of tetraphenylbismuth arenesulfonate were observed. It can be proposed that the synthesis of the target product involves intermediate formation of dibromodiphenylbismuth arenesulfonate and its subsequent disproportionation.
