Abstract

Proton nuclear reaction energy measurements with magnetic and with time-of-flight beam analyzers can be combined to obtain a value for the proton magnetic moment, measured in nuclear magnetons. The value derived from experiments already performed is $\frac{{\ensuremath{\mu}}_{p}}{{\ensuremath{\mu}}_{n}}=2.79259$ with a precision of \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}44 ppm (without diamagnetic correction for protons in water). An increase in precision to \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}20 ppm should be possible with equipment presently available.
